WHERE WOULD REGGAE BE IF IT WERE NOT FOR MIGRATION?

1 November 2021
7-10 pm (CET)

The ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association has become a partner with BBM/BMC (British Black Music/Black Music Congress) and we are pleased to announce event titled ‘Where Would Reggae Be If It Were Not For Migration?’.

The discussion based on the questions:
- Would reggae music have been a global musical genre, if it had not been for the forced migration of Africans from Africa to the Caribbean, and their voluntary migration to Britain?

- What role did British-based individuals and music businesses play in turning reggae from a potentially localised Caribbean genre into a global music genre? History consultant Kwaku posits that without the latter, reggae could have remained another niche genre.

Event starts with a screening of a mash up video, which takes the story from Africa, through Jamaica, Britain, to the global market that’s been conquered by reggae!
