EURO 2012 = EQUALITY + TOLERANCE

The ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association, in collaboration with the City of Warsaw’s Educational Department, the Warsaw Centre of Educational and Social Innovations and the Euro-Education Academy, is embarking on a series of anti-racist trainings in frames of an educational project called ‘EURO 2012 = EQUALITY + TOLERANCE’.
The project is addressed to teachers of physical education and sports coaches from all types of schools and educational institutions from the Warsaw area. Altogether it covers almost 750 institutions and more than one thousand participants will take part in the trainings.
The aim of the project is to promote the idea of a democratic and open-minded school, a friendly environment which rejects racism and intolerance. The project includes workshops for teachers and coaches as well as two conferences. All of the participants receive free educational material on the prevention of discrimination, racism and xenophobia in sports. It contains advice on how to conduct anti-discrimination classes at schools and other educational institutions.

We believe it will contribute to a peaceful and anti-racist UEFA EURO 2012, which is after all what we are all hoping for’ – says Jacek Purski from the ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association.
The workshops conducted by the ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association focus on issues such as manifestations of racism and neo-fascism in sport and prohibited racist symbolism in Polish stadiums. The participants will also take part in workshops concerning violence prevention, fair play in sports as well as anti-discrimination in sports and in everyday life.
The ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association is an independent anti-fascist organization established in 1996. It runs the ‘Let’s Kick Racism out of the Stadiums’ campaign. Since 2009, the Association has coordinated the FARE East European Development Project supported by UEFA in the lead up to EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. ‘NEVER AGAIN’ has set up the East Europe Monitoring Centre documenting racism and xenophobia across the region.
